Join a community that cares

Volunteering with us is an opportunity to make a genuine, lasting difference in the lives of stroke survivors across our community. After a stroke, many people face challenges that go far beyond physical recovery — including isolation, loss of confidence, and difficulty reconnecting with everyday life.

By giving your time, compassion, and energy, you can help change that. Whether you’re supporting group activities, offering a listening ear, or helping sessions run smoothly, your presence brings encouragement, dignity, and hope. No specialist experience is needed — just a willingness to care and be part of something meaningful. Together, we can ensure that no one faces life after stroke alone, and that every survivor has the support they need to rebuild, reconnect, and truly live again.

Volunteer  Treasurer

“Stroke changed our lives overnight,
—but it didn’t take everything.”

My name is Cath, and I became involved in the Hillingdon Stroke Support Group after my partner had a stroke in 2020. It happened completely out of the blue, and suddenly he couldn’t remember his own name or understand a simple instruction. That was the start of our journey into what we now call our “new life.”

When he later volunteered to join the Group’s Committee, I began helping out too, keeping the accounts in order. The Group is self-funded and relies on members’ weekly fees and donations, so every bit of support matters.

We also enjoy some wonderful outings together—minibus trips to museums, concerts, and shared meals, from fish and chips to celebration lunches. It’s a friendly, welcoming group, and I’ve seen members build genuine, lasting friendships here.

Things became even more exciting when members took part in the Stroke Association’s “74 Miles in March” challenge, raising funds while encouraging all of us to stay active.

There’s so much more to the Group than I can capture here. If you know a stroke survivor, have experienced a stroke yourself, or would like to volunteer, please do get in touch—we’d love to hear from you.
