Health and Awareness Event in Ealing!

On Sunday 9th of August HSSG visited the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall. We had a stall in the Marquee where a health event was held for the local community, with blood pressure tests by NHS professionals and Support Groups such as HSSG and the National Carers Association. It was well attended on a very hot August day.

Four of our volunteers set up and ran the stall. We enjoyed the hospitality of the Gurdwara and were made very welcome with cups of tea, water and a wonderful meal, they must have served hundreds of people.

After lunch were joined by Deidre Costigan MP for Southall (Ealing has three MP's) and the Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Faduma Mohamed, Ealings first female Mayor. Both were very interested and kind, showing sincere interest in our HSSG. Both women have had personal experience or someone within their Families that have been affected by a stroke. They were particularly surprised that we would work accross Borough borders to support there Residents if they choose to visit us in Uxbridge. It is thought Ealing does not have a Peer Support Group.

From a generous donation from the Gurdwara and members of the public, including badge sales, we raised around £150 for the group! Overall, a very successful day out for us. This is the second time we have been invited to the Southall Gurdwara and are grateful for their ongoing support of HSSG.

Thanks to our Volunteers who made the day possible and for all their hard work for HSSG.
