Stroke Awareness Month: Did we manage to 'Make May Purple'?

May 2026 marked the start of Stroke Awareness Month this year, and we have certainly been busy! Our group has primarily held stalls at different Leisure Centres this month, selling some Stroke Association Heart Pin badges to raise funds for us! See the photos below:

We've met people from all walks of life - families, carers, neighbours, children of parents affected by strokes, and health professionals! Everyone we meet has a different story and we meet them where they're at. If someone isn't ready to attend a group yet, that's okay! We will always be there for them in the future.

We would also love to extend a thanks to H4All, one of our close charity partners. They have supported us over the past few years to help get settled in as a volunteer-led group, but recently the team at H4All have gone above and beyond sending volunteers our way!

Other organisations that we keep close ties with are Wenzels (who provide surplus food for our group members), Popiandys Uxbridge (a local cafe who have supported us in the past and also used to be the location of the Stroke Association's Aphasia Cafe in 2023!), Tesco (who have given us vouchers for our Mount Vernon Cancer Centre discussions) and M&S (who have supported us with sandwiches at previous events we've hosted!)

Next up for our group is Aphasia Awareness Month in June. We aim to help more people understand aphasia. Aphasia is a communication difficulty that can be caused by stroke. It can affect speaking, understanding speech, reading, writing or using numbers.

See you next month!
