Hillingdon Stroke Support was proud to be one of the Mayor of Hillingdon’s chosen charities for 2025/26, and we were delighted to join hundreds of residents at the Mayor’s annual picnic on Saturday 7 June at Cowley Recreation Ground. Despite the rain, spirits were high as our volunteers and members came together to celebrate community, raise awareness, and fundraise for stroke survivors in Hillingdon.

The picnic offered a wonderful opportunity to connect with our local community. Visitors enjoyed live music, dance performances, inflatables, face painting, a petting zoo, and even a rock climbing wall. Local food vendors offered a delicious range of treats — with a portion of sales supporting the Mayor’s charities, including our group. The festival atmosphere reminded us that recovery and wellbeing extend beyond therapy — they flourish in community, laughter, and shared experiences.
Our volunteers were on hand throughout the day, welcoming visitors, sharing information about the support we provide, and encouraging people to learn more about stroke recovery. It was inspiring to see so many residents engaging with our activities, asking questions, and showing genuine interest in the lives of stroke survivors.
Lucy and Ricky, our team members, reflected on the significance of the day:
"Being chosen as one of the Mayor’s charities this year is truly an honour. Events like this not only help raise vital funds for stroke survivors but also allow the community to see the real impact of our work. Seeing families, friends, and neighbours come together in support — even in the rain — was incredibly heartwarming."
Local resident Sara, who runs a therapy service in Hillingdon, joined us at the event and added:
"I had a fantastic day — meeting volunteers, stroke survivors, and other members of the community. It’s inspiring to see the work Hillingdon Stroke Support does, and I’m proud to support this vital cause."
Over 25 local organisations joined the picnic, creating a vibrant, interactive environment filled with games, activities, and information stalls. For us, the event was a perfect reflection of our mission: building connections, reducing isolation, and supporting recovery.
We are incredibly grateful to the Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr Philip Corthorne, for choosing Hillingdon Stroke Support as one of his charities for 2025/26. Funds raised at the picnic will directly support our sessions and activities, helping stroke survivors rebuild confidence, regain independence, and feel part of a supportive community.
Even in the rain, the community came together, proving that recovery is not just about therapy — it’s about connection, support, and hope. Together, we are helping stroke survivors live life to the fullest.
